TC ActivitiesPoetry Beauty of CJK – CCEA Influencer Tour 2024 Cultural Salon was Held in Chengdu, ChinaOn April 29, 2024, the East Asia Cultural Salon was jointly held by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) and Foreign Affairs Office of Chengdu People’s Municipal Government in DU Fu Cottage, Chengdu, under the theme of “the Poetry Beauty of CJK (诗话中日韩)”. Around 50 people attended the Salon, including TCS Deputy Secretary-General ZUSHI Shuji, and Mr. WANG Guangliang, Deputy Director of Chengdu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. 9 influencers invited by TCS from China, Japan and Korea participated in the CCEA Social Media Influencers Tour 2024 addressed at the Salon.▲Group Photo of the Cultural SalonDuring the Cultural Salon, Deputy Director General WANG Guangliang warmly welcomed the delegation for visiting Chengdu. The primary objective of the event was to promote friendly exchanges among the three countries through the visit to the CCEA, and during the three-day trip, he already sensed that this goal had been achieved. They spoke highly of Chengdu’s natural scenery, humanistic landscape and specialties, and agreed with the shared cultural values of “harmony in diversity” and “harmony in coexistence,” which have been cultivated by the exchanges among the people of the three countries over thousands of years. The LI sisters who introduce Chinese culture in Japanese on social media, expressed their amazement at Chengdu's captivating charm and its intimate atmosphere. They highlighted the city's rich food culture, Three Kingdoms heritage and pandas as particularly attractive for Japanese tourists. Japanese contents creator YAMASHITA Tomohiro expressed his enthusiasm for showcasing Chengdu’s merits to Japanese netizens. Additionally, Korean influencer Park Dae-il who currently lives in Chengdu, showed his willingness to promote Chengdu’s cuisine to a broader international audience.▲Contents Creator YAMASHITA Tomohiro sharing his experiencesFollowing this, the influencers jointly wrote the ancient poem “Spring Night Joyful Rain (春夜喜雨)” by DU Fu, onto a traditional Chinese scroll using Chinese, Japanese and Korean scripts, leaving a beautiful testament to their friendship.▲Co-writing Chinese ancient poem “Spring Night Joyful Rain (春夜喜雨)” by DU Fu During their stay in Chengdu, the delegation visited the Chengdu World Horticultural Expo 2024, Wuhou Shrine, Jinli Ancient Street, Memory of the Eastern Suburbs, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and experienced the “Night Cruise on the Jinjiang River”, which are the representative attractions of Chengdu as the Cultural City of East Asia. The ‘Cultural City of East Asia’ Social Media Influencer Tour was initiated by TCS in 2023, aiming to enhance the connection between the CCEA cities and further promote the brand of CCEA. OthersSecretary-General LEE Hee-sup Met with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of ESCAPOn April 24, 2024, Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup met with Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), to discuss cooperation opportunities between TCS and ESCAP on digital innovation and sustainable development in East Asia.SG LEE extended his gratitude to Ms. Alisjahbana for ESCAP’s continued cooperation with TCS, especially regarding the success of the 3rd Carbon Neutrality Forum held in March 2024. He also introduced upcoming programs of TCS, such as the International Forum for Trilateral Cooperation, expressing his hopes for further cooperation and support from ESCAP on various socio-economic issues in the region.Ms. Alisjahbana first extended her congratulations to SG LEE for his inauguration as Secretary-General of TCS. She emphasized that TCS is an important partner of ESCAP, and asked TCS to continue to play an important role in facilitating the cooperation between China, Japan, and Korea. Seminar & ForumSecretary-General LEE Hee-sup attended the 80th Session of ESCAPOn April 24, 2024, Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup attended the 80th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) which was held on April 22-26, 2024, at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.Under the theme ‘Leveraging digital innovation for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific’, TCS was invited at the Subregional Session to introduce and showcase the works of TCS and trilateral cooperation regarding digital innovation. At the Session, SG LEE introduced the achievements of TCS-ESCAP collaboration projects, such as the latest Carbon Neutrality Forum and the International Forum for Trilateral Cooperation, and further elaborated future plans of TCS in promoting digital innovation for sustainable development of China, Japan, and Korea.After the Subregional Session, TCS co-organized a roundtable side event with ESCAP and the governments of the Republic of Korea and Mongolia, titled ‘Boosting SDG Accelerators through Innovation and Cooperation: Lessons and Opportunities for North-East Asia and the Asia-Pacific Region’. The side event invited experts on sustainable development and digital innovation to exchange insights on how digital technologies are prioritized in their national and organizational commitments for accelerating SDGs. TC Activities“Culture City of East Asia” (CCEA) 2024 Gimhae Opening CeremonyOn April 22, 2024, Culture City of East Asia(CCEA) 2024 Gimhae Opening Ceremony was held at Gimhae Culture Center. The ceremony was hosted by Gimhae City and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the ROK. Around 1,200 participants including the representatives from the 2024 CCEAs host cities, officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, individuals from the arts and culture industry, and Gimhae citizens attended the event. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) was also invited to join the welcome reception and the opening ceremony. At the welcome reception, TCS DSG ZUSHI Shuji delivered a toast remarks alongside other dignitaries including Gimhae Mayor HONG Tae yong and Consul General of China in Busan, CHEN Ribiao. DSG ZUSHI extended congratulations to Gimhae City as it commenced its journey as the CCEA for 2024. Emphasizing Gimhae City's historical and cultural significance as the heart of ancient Geumgwan Gaya on the Korean Peninsula and its deep connections with Japan, he expressed hopes for increased exchanges between Gimhae City and the TCS to further enhance cooperation among China, Japan, and Korea.During the opening ceremony, Mayor HONG Tae-yong highlighted how the unique cultures of China, Japan, and Korea have thrived through mutual embrace. He expressed hope for Gimhae City, along with its neighbors China and Japan, to extend the values of coexistence and peace globally. He also anticipated fostering greater unity among the three countries through diverse cultural exchanges to be organized throughout the year. Vice Mayor XU Lei of Weifang City, Vice Secretary-General ZHANG Xiaofeng of Dalian City, and Vice Mayor KOUNO Katsuya of Munakata City in Japan delivered congratulatory speeches.Following the speeches, traditional performances showcasing the cultures of each city were also staged to commemorate the opening of CCEA2024 Gimhae.*Since 2014, China, Japan, and the ROK have each designated one or two cities as CCEA, engaging in trilateral cultural exchanges annually following an agreement made at the 4th Trilateral Culture Ministers' Meeting (TCMM) in 2012. Weifang City and Dalian City of China, and Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan, were selected as CCEA for 2024 alongside Gimhae City. However, due to difficulties arising from the earthquake recovery efforts earlier in the year, Ishikawa Prefecture was unable to attend, and Munakata City, the sister city of Gimhae City, participated in the opening ceremony instead.▲DSG ZUSHI delivering toast remarks at the welcome reception▲Group Photo2024.04.22
