OthersVisit by Diplomat Candidates from the Korea National Diplomatic AcademyOn July 9, 2024, the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) received a delegation of 43 diplomat candidates from the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, led by PARK Chi-young, director of the education management division. TCS Staff welcomed the diplomat candidates and introduced the history of trilateral cooperation, the role of TCS, and ongoing trilateral cooperation projects in the areas of political, economic, and socio-cultural affairs.TCS Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup delivered a special lecture on trilateral cooperation to the future diplomats. He explained the key achievements and significance of the 9th Trilateral Summit Meeting, emphasizing that the three countries will continue to strengthen cooperation in ways that directly impact the daily lives of their citizens. He also highlighted trust as the foundation of society and stressed the need for continuous efforts to build and maintain it. Deputy Secretary-General ZUSHI Shuji emphasized the importance of regional international organizations and the role of TCS. Also, he introduced his journey as a diplomat and offered valuable advice for future diplomats. Seminar & ForumTCS Board attend the 6th NEAR Korea-China-Japan SEOUL ProcessOn July 8, TCS Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup, Deputy Secretaries-General ZUSHI Shuji and YAN Liang (collectively the 7th Consultative Board) attended the 6th NEAR Korea-China-Japan SEOUL Process hosted by North East Asia Research (NEAR) Foundation. With the theme “A Roadmap for Sustainable Peace and Prosperity in Northeast Aisa”, the seminar brought together leading current and former policymakers, eminent scholars, and distinguished experts from the three countries to discuss challenges and opportunities in Northeast Asia as well as global issues that have profound implications for the future relations among the three countries. The TCS consultative board attended the seminar to gain valuable insights and engage in the discussions.2024.07.08

TC Activities2nd Trilateral Young Rural Leaders' Exchange Program (TREP) in Jeonbuk State of the Republic of KoreaOn July 2nd to 5th 2024, Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) and Jeonbuk State co-hosted the 2nd Trilateral Young Rural Leaders' Exchange Program (TREP) in Jeonbuk State of the Republic of Korea. This program, themed “Agriculture Meets Modern Needs: Future Innovation Cooperation,” was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of the Republic of Korea (ROK).On July 3rd, the TREP program started with the Smart Farm Innovation Valley in Jeonbuk Gimje. Ms. Yoo Da-Gyeom, team leader of the Agri-Food Human Resources Division Institute, provided participants with an introduction to the facility and guided them on a tour.Following the tour of the Smart Farm facility, the program included a presentation by a graduate of the Youth Start-up Business Incubator Center. This was followed by discussions among the TREP participants, graduates, facility staff from the Smart Farm Valley, and students from the Korea National University of Agriculture and Fisheries. The group deliberated on the challenges and benefits of operating a smart farm.▲Group Photo at the Gimje, Smart Farm Innovation ValleyOn July 4th, the TREP program visited the Imsil Cheese Theme Park and the Sunchang Traditional Paste Museum. At the Imsil Cheese Theme Park, participants learned about the introduction of cheese to the Korean diet, which dates back to 1958 when a Belgian priest arrived in Imsil as a missionary, leading Imsil to become the cheese mecca of Korea.▲Site Visit to Imsil Cheese Theme ParkIn Sunchang-gun, KIM Jihoon, President of the Sunchang 4H Association, gave a presentation about his experiences as a farmer and his involvement with the 4H Association. Following the lecture, participants discovered the renowned taste and unique flavor of Sunchang gochujang (red pepper paste), which has been famous since the Joseon Dynasty. TC ActivitiesOpening of the 2nd Trilateral Young Rural Leader’s Exchange ProgramOn July 3rd, the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) and the Office of Jeonbuk State co-hosted the 2nd Trilateral Young Rural Leaders' Exchange Program (TREP) in Jeonju city of the Republic of Korea. This program, themed “Agriculture Meets Modern Needs: Future Innovation Cooperation,” was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of the Republic of Korea (ROK). TCS Deputy Secretary-General YAN Liang thanked Agricultural Ministry from China, Japan and Korea as well as Jeonbuk State for letting us host this special program. In his opening remark, he highlighted that a new generation of leadership is urgently needed to ensure the succession, innovation, and sustainable development of agriculture. Mr. Kim Jong-hoon, Vice Governor of Jeonbuk State delivered opening remarks. In his remarks, he stated that Jeonbuk State is now advancing the goal of global city of life economy. He addressed that this would not be possible without young people’s participation from young people and Jeonbuk State is working hard to promote various projects for young generation. He added that the 2nd TREP would hopefully serve as an excellent platform for young rural leaders by providing networking opportunities and exchange information. Mr.TANG Shenyao, Representative of The Food and Agriculture Organization Partnership and Liaison Office in the Republic of Korea (FAO PLO in ROK) delivered congratulatory remarks. He mentioned that the program's theme, which focuses on the interaction of agriculture and modern technology, is not only timely but essential for the future sustainability of rural economies. Mr. KWON Taehoon, Senior Deputy Director of the Smart Agriculture Policy Division of the MAFRA, Mr. OMURA Shigeki, Deputy Director of the Bilateral Affairs Division, Export and International Affairs Bureau of the MAFF, and Mr. WENG Chongpeng, Division Chief of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, introduced the current situation and technical initiatives in rural areas of CJK respectively. Young rural leaders from three countries are invited to the 2nd TREP, running from July 2nd to 5th, 2024. The TCS will provide opportunities to attend relevant smart agriculture facilities, lectures, discussions, and visits to symbolic rural areas related to rural revitalization.
