On July 26, 2023, TCS Deputy Secretary-General BEK Bumhym attended the ‘2023 Korea-China Future Development Jeju International Exchange Week’ event held in Jeju, ROK. Under the theme of “Korea-China People-to-People Exchanges and the Future Direction of Industrial Development”, the event is co-hosted by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the Consulate General of China in Jeju, seeking ways to revitalize people-to-people exchanges and promote co-development of the economic industries between the two countries after COVID-19. More than 100 participants including public officials from the Chinese local governments in sister/friendship relations with Jeju (from Heilongjiang to Hainan Province), experts, and CEOs participated in various programs under the event, such as forums, roundtable discussions, and visits to industrial and cultural sites in Jeju.
In his congratulatory remarks, DSG BEK noted that Jeju Province has been one of the most active local governments involved in trilateral cooperation since it was designated as one of the Culture City of East Asia (CCEA) in 2016. It has also been greatly contributing to bilateral exchanges and cooperation for Korea-China and Korea-Japan relations, which are important pillars of trilateral cooperation. He addressed that cooperation in various fields is needed to overcome the global crisis caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. He expected in-depth knowledge and insight of experts to be exchanged through this occasion between the two countries so to further strengthen sister/friendship city relations and expand the cooperation to high-tech industries such as biotechnology and renewable energy, which will be of increasing importance in the upcoming years.
