On 21 December 2021, the 14th Tripartite Health Ministers’ Meeting was convened online. The Meeting was chaired by Minister GOTO Shigeyuki of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. Minister KWON Deok Cheol of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the ROK, Vice Minister LI Bin on behalf of Minister MA Xiaowei of the National Health Commission of China, and Dr. KASAI Takeshi, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific attended the Meeting. Amb. OU Boqian, Secretary-General of Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) attended the Meeting and delivered opening remarks. 

In the opening remarks, TCS Secretary-General OU spoke highly of the efforts made by the three governments to protect the health and safety of the peoples during the pandemic. She noted that the trilateral health cooperation fully demonstrated the value of international cooperation and highlighted that working as a community and sharing experience with each other are crucial for better responding and controlling the pandemic. SG also introduced the efforts of TCS in promoting trilateral cooperation on ageing societies and looked forward to strengthening the communication with relevant organizations and contributing more to the area. 

At the Meeting, the following agendas were discussed: 1) Sharing experience for responding to COVID-19, 2) Healthy ageing and non-communicable diseases, 3) Achieving and strengthening Universal Health Coverage (UHC). After the panel discussion, the Meeting adopted the “Joint Statement of the Fourteenth Tripartite Health Ministers’ Meeting (THMM)” and “Joint Action Plan on Preparedness and Response against Infectious Diseases with Pandemic or High Consequence Potential of Common Concern”. 

The 15th Tripartite Health Ministers' Meeting will be hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the ROK.
