From 20-21 August 2019, TCS delegation headed by Ms QIAO Wen, Director of Economic Affairs, attended the 11th United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) China-Japan-Korea Roundtable Conference. From the CJK Local Networks, Mr. ZHU Hongren, Chairman of Global Compact Network China and Executive Vice President of the China Enterprise Confederation, Mr. NOMURA Akio, Board Member of Global Compact Network Japan, and Mr. LEE Dong Kurn, President of Global Compact Network Korea, and Ms. LIU Meng, Head of Asia Pacific Networks of UNGC attended the Conference. 

 

Under the theme of “SDGs for Business- Try First to Be a Pioneer”, representatives of UNGC CJK Local Networks, business sector, academia and youth delegates gathered to discuss how business can contribute to the achievement of key sustainable goals of local communities, how business can contribute to SDGs through innovative technologies, and how to address climate change challenges and achieve regional development. 

 

Director QIAO Wen delivered opening remarks where she underlined how trilateral cooperation is necessary in addressing the SDGs and emphasised the important role of business sector in doing so. Drawing on the strong commitment of the leaders of the three countries, she encouraged the business sector’s active engagement in the endeavour to achieve the SDGs. She also stressed that TCS continues to work together with UNGC Local Networks to provide platforms for relevant stakeholders to share challenges and promote cooperation.

 

One day prior to the Conference, the youth delegates had a Forum where they learned about the challenges of biodiversity issues and good business practices to tackle them. TCS provided a lecture on trilateral cooperation and how TCS contributes to the peace and prosperity of the region from various different perspectives. 

 

The annual Conference serves as a chance for participants to share good practices of sustainable business activities, discuss common challenges and build networks to promote further Corporate Social Responsibility activities, and to strengthen partnerships between the UNGC Local Networks in East Asia. TCS has been attending the Conference since 2015.
