Seminar & Forum TCS Co-hosted the Seminar Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Trilateral Cooperation in Changchun, China 2024-10-26

On 26 October 2024, the Seminar Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Trilateral Cooperation theming “Reorienting Trilateral Cooperation: New Version, New Dynamism, and New Structure” was successfully held in Changchun, China. The seminar was co-hosted by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) and China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU), and organized by Jilin Provincial Government and CCPIT Jilin Provincial Council. 

Ms. YANG Andi, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, Mr. SUN Weidong, Vice Foreign Minister of China, Mr. KANASUGI Kenji, Japanese Ambassador to China, and Mr. WANG Fan, President of CFAU attended the seminar and delivered remarks. TCS Secretary-General LEE Hee Sup delivered opening and closing remarks and exchanged views with stakeholders during the seminar. The seminar included three sessions: 1) Ambassadors Dialogue: Confidence-building in an era of Transformation; 2) Economic Cooperation: Balancing Security and Development; 3) Cultural Exchange: Recasting Foundations for Trilateral Cooperation by Enhancing People-to-people Ties. More than 130 diplomats, governmental officials, researchers, and journalists participated in the seminar. 

In the opening session, TCS SG LEE briefly reviewed the achievements of the 25 years of trilateral cooperation, as well as the new situations, opportunities, and challenges it faces. He pointed out that the cooperation among the three countries has gradually developed from the period of "adolescence" to a "stable and golden period". He added that the trilateral cooperation should be based on the principles of mutual trust and mutual benefit, and steadily improve the quality of cooperation. He called on the three countries to further facilitate personnel exchanges, expand the scale of people-to-people exchanges, and build a solid public opinion foundation for future cooperation among the three countries. He emphasized that the TCS will, as always, provide substantial support for the trilateral consultation mechanism and cooperation projects, and build more beneficial platforms, to better implement the outcomes of the 9th Trilateral Summit Meeting. 

In the closing session, SG LEE spoke highly of the achievements of the seminar. He pointed out that people from all walks of life in the three countries are an important part of the symphony of trilateral cooperation. Only by working together and cooperating with each other can a beautiful chapter be written. He said that the TCS is ready to maintain close cooperation with people from all walks of life to jointly explore the huge potential of future cooperation and make positive contributions to the common prosperity of the three countries and regions beyond. 

The Think-tank Consensus on the 25th Anniversary of Trilateral Cooperation was also released at the seminar.
