The agriculture ministers of ROK, China, and Japan attended the 1st Trilateral Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting on April 15 in Jeju, ROK. The meeting was chaired by Mr. SEO Kyu-yong , Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of ROK, Mr. MICHIHIKO Kano, Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan and Mr. HAN Changfu, Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China. TCS delegation attended the meeting as an observer.
At the meeting, the agriculture ministers from ROK, China, and Japan exchanged in-depth views on issues such as food security, measures against plant and animal diseases, joint responses to natural disasters, and economic cooperation among the three countries. They also agreed to hold this meeting regularly, with the next meeting scheduled for 2013 in Japan.
As the meeting concluded, the agriculture ministers of the three countries signed a joint statement. During a joint press conference, they expressed the view that this meeting would serve as a foundation for trilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.
