TC Activities Opening of the 2nd Trilateral Young Rural Leader’s Exchange Program 2024.07.03

On July 3rd, the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) and the Office of Jeonbuk State co-hosted the 2nd Trilateral Young Rural Leaders' Exchange Program (TREP) in Jeonju city of the Republic of Korea. This program, themed “Agriculture Meets Modern Needs: Future Innovation Cooperation,” was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of the Republic of Korea (ROK). 

TCS Deputy Secretary-General YAN Liang thanked Agricultural Ministry from China, Japan and Korea as well as Jeonbuk State for letting us host this special program. In his opening remark, he highlighted that a new generation of leadership is urgently needed to ensure the succession, innovation, and sustainable development of agriculture. 

Mr. Kim Jong-hoon, Vice Governor of Jeonbuk State delivered opening remarks. In his remarks, he stated that Jeonbuk State is now advancing the goal of global city of life economy. He addressed that this would not be possible without young people’s participation from young people and Jeonbuk State is working hard to promote various projects for young generation. He added that the 2nd TREP would hopefully serve as an excellent platform for young rural leaders by providing networking opportunities and exchange information. 

Mr.TANG Shenyao, Representative of The Food and Agriculture Organization Partnership and Liaison Office in the Republic of Korea (FAO PLO in ROK) delivered congratulatory remarks. He mentioned that the program's theme, which focuses on the interaction of agriculture and modern technology, is not only timely but essential for the future sustainability of rural economies. 

Mr. KWON Taehoon, Senior Deputy Director of the Smart Agriculture Policy Division of the MAFRA, Mr. OMURA Shigeki, Deputy Director of the Bilateral Affairs Division, Export and International Affairs Bureau of the MAFF, and Mr. WENG Chongpeng, Division Chief of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, introduced the current situation and technical initiatives in rural areas of CJK respectively. 

Young rural leaders from three countries are invited to the 2nd TREP, running from July 2nd to 5th, 2024. The TCS will provide opportunities to attend relevant smart agriculture facilities, lectures, discussions, and visits to symbolic rural areas related to rural revitalization. Participants will learn about and exchange ideas on agricultural modernization and industrialization cases, such as agricultural technology, and share experiences of rural revitalization and youth entrepreneurship in the three countries.
