The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) held its public lecture series “Three Strands of Asia” on February 13, 2014. The first lecture was delivered by Professor Emanuel Pastreich, the director of the Asia Institute and Associate Professor of the College of International Studies at Kyung Hee University, about “The Written languages of Korea, China and Japan.”

The event started with the brief introduction of the TCS and the remark by Secretary-General Amb. Iwatani Shigeo to congratulate the start of the lecture series. 60 participants from universities, government agencies, and media visited the TCS to listen to the lecture. The lecture by Professor Pasteich, a well-known expert in the classical novel in China, Japan and Korea, featured historical background for the similarities and differences among the written scripts of the three countries. The lecture lasted for two hours with lively Q & A session.

The TCS will continue holding “Three Strands of Asia” every month with renowned professionals from different fields including tradition, social life and popular culture.
